About Chris Kelby
Chris Kelby is the Head PGA Professional at Marriott Hollins Halll. Originally from Grantham in Lincolnshire, Chris grew up playing his golf at Belton Park Golf Club representing club and county at all levels before becoming the clubs Assistant Pro in 1998 and embarking on a career in golf. Chris became a fully qualified member of the Professional Golfers Association in 2002 when he graduated with Distinction. After graduation Chris moved to the Middle East to pursue his love of coaching, in warmer climates, taking up the position of PGA Teaching Professional at Abu Dhabi Golf & Equestrian Club. Following two successful years in the UAE, Chris made the relatively short move over to the Kingdom of Bahrain and Riffa Golf Club as their Teaching Professional.  During his 8 1/2 years in Bahrain Chris became Head Teaching Professional, and when the course was redeveloped in to what is now the Colin Montgomerie designed Royal Golf Club, he was promoted to Head Professional where one of his main duties was managing the Royal Golf Academy.  Coaching has always been Chris's main passion as a Professional. He has continued to develop his teaching methods through experience and further study, incorporating many different philosophies and techniques into his coaching enabling him to communicate to and develop the games of players of all levels helping them to achieve their potential or individual goals in golf. Chris describes himself as an uncomplicated coach which helps him to get the best out of his players. "By focusing on the fundamentals along with some simple swing thoughts and feelings I have found that I can achieve great success with players of all levels. By getting to the route of the problem quickly, most swing faults can be fixed without tearing apart a swing but by one or two changes which filter through the whole technique. Most players do not have the time to practice as much as they would like, they want fixes that they can remember and manage themselves.  One off my greatest influences in coaching is the great John Jacobs, who emphasised the importance of understanding ball flights. If you can understand why certain shots occur then you can manage your game accordingly. The importance of the short and mental games cannot be underestimated. I like to try and give as many short game lessons as I do swing lessons as it is the easiest way to improve someones scores. The mental game and approach is huge and is something that I work on with players during swing sessions and during on course lessons." "I am looking forward to meeting all of the members and visitors to Hollins Hall and helping as many of them as possible to improve their games" Chris is committed to providing the most comprehensive coaching program in the area, catering for all of the members, residents and guests at Hollins Hall, as well as growing the game by encouraging new players through the door. Chris is also linked with the Golf foundation and will be running the Junior Golf Passport program to encourage more young people into the game from January 2014.
